Shirley Jacobus Seiders, 90 of Toms River, NJ died peacefully on Wednesday evening, December
20, 2023 at Hampton Ridge Healthcare and Rehabilitation Nursing Home in Toms River. Shirley
was born in Montclair, NJ and raised in both Essex Fells, NJ and Westfield, NJ. After her
marriage to Reno H. Seiders, they resided in Westfield to raise their sons, David and John, as
well as her brother, Robert. Shirley moved to Toms River in 1996 where she lived in the
Gardens of Pleasant Plains until the fall of 2020 when she moved into Brandywine Assisted
Living.
After graduating from Berkeley Secretarial School, she was a service representative with NJ Bell
Telephone before being a stay-at-home mom for her brother and sons.
Shirley was a former member of the Presbyterian Church in Westfield where she was ordained
as a Deacon and an Elder, taught Sunday School, and was a member of the Chancel Choir and
the Handbell Choir. After serving her church in Westfield as a volunteer for many years, Shirley
worked in the church as Office Manager for nearly fifteen years before retiring in 1995. Since
her move to Toms River, she was a member of the Presbyterian Church of Toms River and the
Joy Circle of Presbyterian Women.
Shirley was preceded in death by her parents, Harold C. and Agnes G. Jacobus, her beloved
husband Reno H. Seiders, and her brother, Robert G. Jacobus (of Orcas Island, WA). She is
survived by: her loving sons, David H. Seiders and his wife, Denise Seiders of Toms River, NJ and
the Rev. Dr. John H. Seiders and his wife, the Rev. Dr. Ruthie Seiders of Billerica, MA; four dear
grandchildren Robert D. Seiders (and wife Marisa Seiders) of Union Beach, NJ, Rebekah Aucoin
(and husband Craig Aucoin) of Framingham, MA, Christine Seiders (and fiancé Russ Draper) of
Toms River, NJ, and Anna Seiders of Reading, MA; and, six cherished great grandchildren, Olivia
Bruno, Riley Seiders, Alexa Bruno, Austin Aucoin, Avery Seiders, and Allie Aucoin; and sister-in-
law Dana Jacobus of Scottsdale, AZ (formerly of Orcas Island, WA).
Shirley lived by faith everyday of her life, brought joy to her family, and will always be loved and
remembered by her family and friends.
A memorial service to celebrate Shirley’s life will be held at the Presbyterian Church of Toms
River on Saturday, December 30, at 10:00 a.m. Family and friends are invited to meet with the
family following the service in the hall at the Pleasant Plains Fire Department (40 Clayton Ave.
Toms River, NJ).
A private interment will take place in Westfield, NJ in the Revolutionary Cemetery on Mountain
Ave.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in her memory to Caregivers of Central Jersey (67
Route 37 West, Riverwood Plaza 2, Toms River, NJ 08755), or the Legacy Endowment Fund of
the Presbyterian Church of Toms River, 1070 Hooper Ave., Toms River, NJ 08753.
