Obituary of Matteo Michael Giampoala
Please share a memory of Matteo to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Matteo (Matt) Michael Giampoala December 28, 1948 - October 15, 2023.
Born in Lyndhurst, NJ to Matteo and Marie Giampoala, Matt grew up in Lyndhurst with his siblings
Patricia, Sandra, and Joseph and spent much time with his cousins and extended family. Matt graduated
from Lyndhurst High School class of 1967 and was East Coast Distribution Manager of Sorrento Cheese
for 25 years.
In 1985 Matt married the love of his life, Esther (née D’Alessandro). Their children Michael, Laura,
Joseph, Carmen, Matthew, and Lisa made for a lively, loud, and loving family.
Matt was an artist at heart in many different forms. His craftsmanship was always evident in his and
Esther’s beautiful home. He was a talented portraitist. Later in life his hobby turned into a passion and
his incredible leatherwork could be found at craft fairs around New Jersey.
Known for his quick wit and humor, Matt loved good conversation with family and friends over cards
and games. He was talented with puzzles and enjoyed watching golf, football, and baseball. He tuned in
regularly for “Jeopardy!” and could often answer as quickly as the contestants. Matt could be counted
on to know the name of every actor in every movie and who they had worked with previously. His mind
for trivia made you always want him on your team, and his quips were quick and would fill a room with
laughter.
Most of all, Matt loved to be surrounded by family. He enjoyed big Sunday dinners, where family could
always stop by for macaroni or dessert. He particularly loved the yearly tradition of the Feast of the
Seven Fishes and getting together with the extended family for beach vacations in North Carolina.
He was predeceased by his sister Patricia and survived by his beloved wife Esther and siblings Sandra
and Joseph and sister-in-law Shirley and brother-in-law Joe D’Alessandro. He was a loving Dad to
Michael and wife Michelle; Laura Townson and husband David; Carmen Lore; Matthew and wife Anne;
and Lisa White and husband Anthony. He was an attentive uncle to 7. He was a proud and adoring Pop
to 17 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren and counting!
Donations in his name can be made to Gift of Life Howie’s House.
