Obituary of Helen Kovacs

Beloved mother and grandmother Helen Kovacs, 90, of Manchester, New Jersey joined her dear husband Ernest in heaven on June 26, 2021. Helen was born on December 7, 1930, to Charles and Mary Barlik and resided in Carteret, New Jersey for much of her life. She was predeceased by her brothers John and Carl Barlik, Joseph and August Hoyer, and her sisters Ann Karmonocky, Margaret Kaminsky, and Marion Savage. Helen will be greatly missed by her three loving children and their spouses Charles and Michele Kovacs, Michael and Gerri Kovacs, and Mary and Jim Mruk, her grandchildren Nicole, Jillian, Jenna, Ashley, Michael, and Zachary, and her great grandchildren Ava, Reed, and Jane. Helen and Ernest were married on September 25, 1954, shortly before Ernest left to serve in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War. Upon his return, they purchased a home in Carteret, where they raised their three children. Devoted to her family, Helen worked various part time jobs, including at Dorsi’s Bakery in Port Reading, where she loved to chat with the customers. Helen enjoyed arts and crafts, including baking, sewing, and crocheting. When Helen and Ernest retired to Deltona, Florida in 1992, Helen volunteered her talents to her church. Some of Helen’s fondest memories in Florida were childminding Nicole and Ashley. After Ernest died in 2004, Helen returned to New Jersey to live with Charles and Michele in Manchester. Helen loved nature and animals and treasured observing birds and other animals outside her window. An internment service for Helen and Ernest will be held at BG William C. Doyle Veterans Memorial Cemetery at 350 Provinceline Road in Wrightstown, NJ on Friday, September 24 at 1:00 pm (609-738-2400).
