Obituary of Richard Koempel

Richard Koempel, 78 of Brick, NJ born December 1, 1939 in East Orange NJ, passed away on March 23, 2018 after a 5-year courageous battle with bladder cancer.

Dick attended Saint Rose High School in Belmar and was a graduate Manasquan High School. He earned his degree in electrical engineering from Newark College of Engineering (NJIT) Dick was a plant manager and engineer at Sonetronics Inc, and retired in 2010. He enjoyed his retirement to the fullest, spending time enjoying life with his family and friends.  He especially loved traveling with family and friends, spending time in Cancun and the Cayman Islands. He also enjoyed spending time at their southern home and “happy place,” Casa Koempel in Fort Myers Beach, Florida. He was able to spend time on the Lanai or by the pool the last four years, and for a few months as a snowbird between treatments.

Loved by all who knew him, Dick had an infectious smile as evidenced by the many photos on Facebook. He had huge Parrot Head Family of friends and was a charter member of Coastal Jersey Parrot Head Club and member of Naples Parrot Head Clubs. Dick was also known for his presence at the ACS Making Strides Against Breast Cancer walk in Point Pleasant Beach sporting a parrot hat and handing out water which he called Margaritas at Lake of the Lilies.

His devoted wife and caregiver, Diane; four children, Kathy, Lisa, Scott, Michael and two stepchildren, John and Tina; as well as nine grandchildren and four great grand children survive him. Dick always the ladies man, leave many Dicks Chicks who fondly remember his fun loving nature.

A celebration of life is planned for May 6 at Brick Elks Lodge 2151 Old Hooper Ave. with details to follow.
