Donald A. Jones, 90, passed away peacefully on Monday morning, Jan. 1, 2018, at home in Toms River, NJ. He was born in Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania, on August 14, 1927. He made New Jersey his home for many years of his adult life, mostly Middletown and in Toms River for the last several years.
Don is predeceased by his wife of 58 years, Alice, and survived by his loving children, Kenneth Jones of Flowery Branch, GA; Sandra Jones Sickels (Steve Shapiro) of Waretown, NJ; Leslie Jones (Larry Dight) of Manasquan, NJ; Lorraine and husband Michael Cartier of Estell Manor, NJ; and Ronald Jones and wife Cindy of Lincroft, NJ; as well by his grandchildren, Matthew, Brian, and Michael Jones; Shafer Sickels and wife Anita; Marissa and Andrew Cartier; and Kirsten and Megan Jones; and by his three great grandchildren, Adam, Noah, and Eden Sickels. Don is also survived by daughter Deb Williams of Morgantown, WV, and her family.
A veteran of the US Navy and a graduate of Wilkes University, Don worked for General Motors for 35 years before retiring. During his retirement years, Don was an avid traveler. He traveled 49 of the US states and Canada, and his favorite trips were to warm and sunny Florida.
The family wishes to give grateful acknowledgment to his friends and the staff at Silverwoods in Toms River for their friendship and assistance.
There will be a private family memorial service. In memory of Don, donations to the Deborah Heart and Lung Center (212 Trenton Road, Brown Mills, NJ 08015, www.deborahfoundation.
