George Franklin Gorby
January 19th, 1952 – June 6th, 2026
George Franklin Gorby, our beloved father and “Pop Pop," passed away at the age of 74 on Saturday, June 6th, quietly and peacefully at his family home, surrounded by loved ones.
Born in 1952, the only son of George “Jack” and Bertha(Franklin) Gorby, George was born and raised in Ocean Gate,NJ. He graduated from Central Regional High School in Bayville, NJ, in 1970 and attended Ocean County College.
He moved to Yachats, Oregon, with his soon-to-be wife,Nancy Kent, where they married and had two girls, Megan and Amber as he worked as a chef and house painter. They would return to Ocean Gate a few years later and have two more girls, Heather and Krista. George would go on to work for the borough for almost 20 years.
Later, they moved to Livermore, CA, before returning to New Jersey to live in Ocean Grove and then Forked River. His favorite jobs were those outdoors, working for multiple parks departments, including Asbury Park.
George was a true artist—heart and soul. A writer, sculptor, painter, carpenter, and our favorite musician, he could fix anything. He was an avid reader and could hold a conversation on almost any subject. He loved cooking, history, mythology, music, classic movies, and his family. He was the friendly neighbor, always generous with his time and skills. Above all, he was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather, and we will miss him deeply.
George was predeceased by his wife of 43 years, Nancy(Kent) Gorby, in 2023; his parents, George E. and Bertha Gorby; and his sisters, Helen McCahill,Jacqueline Dunn,Laura Richards, and Sallie Schmidt. He is survived by his daughters, Megan Conte and her husband, Marty, Amber Gorby, Heather Gorby, and Krista Gorby, and by his grandchildren, Lea, Daniel, and Mason Conte, and Jake and Jaxson Gorby. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
Services will be announced at a later date.
