Obituary of Mary Petrone

Mary Petrone passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by her family on Saturday, September 20, 2025. Mary was proudly born and raised in Philadelphia, PA. She grew up in a tight-knit family of 8 and was fondly known in the neighborhood as one of the "Green girls" along with her partner in crime and sister, Trish. Mary moved to Forked River in 1983 where she continued to grow her family for over 40 years. Mary knew her time here was precious and lived her life purposefully. Her greatest joy in life was spending time with her friends and family. She was a beloved sister, wife, mother, grandmother, and trusted friend. Mary took every opportunity to be outdoors with the ones she loved. She spent much of her time soaking up the sun, clamming, and fishing in the Barnegat Bay with her husband of 39 years, Hank. She enjoyed gardening, taking long walks with her daughter and close friends, and spending time with her grandchildren, whether it was pulling them in the wagon around the yard or enthusiastically chasing them around the playground. Mary was known by all that loved her as deeply caring and a pillar of strength. She firmly believed in advocating for yourself and through that notion, courageously navigated and fought her battle with cancer for over 13 years. Although 62 years will never feel long enough, her family will forever be grateful for her remarkable fortitude that gifted them with more time. She will be deeply missed. Mary was predeceased by her parents, Joseph and Patricia Green. She is survived by her husband Hank Petrone, her children Matthew Petrone (Deena), Daniel Petrone (Stephanie), and Nicole Petrone and her grandchildren Hank, Sophie, Jack, Taylor, and Juliet. Close relatives and friends will be invited to a celebration of life in Mary's honor on her 63rd birthday, December 4, 2025.
