Loveland
Robert “Bob” Charles Loveland, lovingly known as “Pop Pop,” passed away peacefully on Tuesday, September 2, 2025, at the age of 89. Born on July 12, 1936, in Elizabeth, New Jersey, he was the beloved husband of Marjorie “Marge” Loveland, with whom he shared nearly six decades of marriage. Bob was the son of Maude and Charles Loveland and brother to John, Bertha, and Marie.
From an early age, Robert’s love of music filled his life—whether it was playing in a band, serenading the family with 50s and 60s classics on the guitar, or playing piano duets with his wife in the living room. He often fondly recalled the simple joys of his youth: catching a movie and savoring a hot dog, all for the price of a nickel.
After serving in the U.S. Army until his discharge in 1955, Robert dedicated 33 years of his career to Nestlé, working on the coffee line.
Robert’s passions were as joyful as he was, painting oil landscapes that rivaled Bob Ross, maintaining his home with pride, and finding happiness in the little things—like peanut butter cups, a morning cup of Folgers coffee, or a good chili cheese dog. He enjoyed watching westerns, Indiana Jones, and classic war films, and was delighted when family would join him in doing so. When he and Marge moved to Florida, he thrived in the warmth of the sun, enjoyed playing games with friends, and treasured family visits, where his grandchildren always found a sturdy shoulder to lean on.
Bob was a devoted father to Sharon Loveland, Michele Dragos and her husband Dennis, and the late David Loveland. He was also the proud grandfather to Courtney Rodberg and her husband Shane McCullough, Meagan Thistle and her husband Nicholas Thistle, Allison O’Biso, Natalie Dragos, and Emily Dragos. His great-grandchildren, Penelope and Caleb McCullough, were the lights of his later years.
A celebration of his life will be held on Saturday, November 1st, at 11:00 AM at St. Andrews United Methodist Church in Toms River. Family and friends are invited to gather, share stories, and honor a man whose kindness, patience, and love of family will forever be remembered. Bob is now reunited with his wife and his son David, and together they will live on in the hearts of all who loved them.
