Losing a loved one can affect the balance within a family and it’s traumatic to lose a parent sibling, grandparent, or child. Sometimes, even when the person has been ill for some time and you are pre-warned about the imminent death, dealing with the situation can be challenging.

How To Create New Traditions

At Ocean County Cremation Service we have seen families that have recently lost someone close to them, struggle with following traditions especially during special occasions and the holidays. There are some ways to create new traditions after loss and here we look at some of them:

  • Start something entirely new because traditions that you and your family followed when the person was alive can now become the cause of grief and sorrow. Try to follow some activity that helps to strengthen familial bonds, as it will help to fill the void everyone is feeling.

  • Pick a tradition that will help you honor your loved one. Instead of doing away with all the special touches, add something that will be all-inclusive and remind you of that person. For example, you can cook some food or bake something that your loved one particularly liked. All the family members should meet and reminisce about the loved one.

  • The idea of including new traditions is to slowly accept your lose and heal. If the things you do harm you, you should look at ways to change those traditions. Each person grieves differently, so you must find what will work for you and help you move away from the grief. This approach will help to ensure that you and your family can include the loved one you have lost, into traditions in a more positive way.
