5 Funeral Etiquette Tips You Need to Know
Friday, August 31, 2018
Attending the funeral is never easy. The family and close friends of the person who has passed away would be in mourning, and it becomes important to ensure that their feelings aren’t hurt in any way while they’re grieving. We at Ocean County Cremation Service, recommend that if you are planning to attend a funeral service, there are certain etiquette tips you can follow:
- Be punctual- Make it a point to be at the venue at least 15 to 20 minutes prior to the starting time. It isn’t polite to disrupt the ceremony. When you arrive early, it also allows you some time to settle in and interact with the grieving relatives. In spite of trying your level best, if you are delayed, simply walk quietly into the venue and look for a seat in the back rows.
- Make sure your switch off your phone- Ensure that your mobile phone is either on silent mode or is switched off entirely, well before you enter the funeral venue. Do not attend to calls or even check your phone for messages, unless it’s something urgent.
- Choose the right attire- It’s important that you follow the dress etiquette when you are attending a funeral. Steer clear of casual clothing or anything that is bright. Try to wear formal or semi-formal clothes that are of subtle shades.
- Choose your words carefully- Many people aren’t too sure about how they should express their condolences. Sometimes they say things that are hurtful to the grieving family, quite unintentionally. One of the best ways to avoid any faux pas is to keep your condolences simple.
