Different Ways to Personalize an Obituary

Obituaries are a way of recognizing the deceased, whether this is in the newspaper or more commonly today, online. A traditional obituary states the date of birth and death as well as to inform of the arrangements and commonly would help with notifying friends or family that had lost touch.

Tips for Personalizing an Obituary

Personalizing an obituary gives it a little touch to make it stand out among the rest and describe the deceased in more detail for those who are reading and can be a way of paying respects or tribute to loved ones. Here are some ways to make it more personal:

Skills – Were your loved ones skilled in anything interesting? This doesn’t have to be a specific profession but could also include instruments, painting or drawing or even making cakes. Identify what they were best at and highlight this in the obituary.

Pictures – Some mediums will allow for a picture while others are text only, but including a picture helps others to identify your loved one and recognise them. Nothing says personalisation like a photograph.

Quotes – Sharing any of your favourite quotes or wisdom of the deceased can spread the word to others and may inspire those who read it which would also help to memorialize your loved one.

Memories – Your favourite memory can help you share something personal and meaningful to you which can be useful during the grieving process.

Hobbies – What did your loved one enjoy doing? Sharing some of the things they were passionate about helps to shape the kind of person they were and adds a personal element to the obituary.

Ultimately, what makes an obituary personal is to add specifics about the deceased and key details that made them unique. If you want more help with this visit our website or contact a member of staff who will happily answer any questions you may have.
