Memorial Ideas For Veterans

Veterans and present military personnel are deserving of a dignified and moving memorial service. They should be remembered with reverence. Thus memorial services should be organized with care. We at Ocean County Cremation Service are familiar with planning memorial services for veterans because we have done it for many of them in the past. Some possible memorials are discussed below.

1. Highlight Their Military Career

A veteran's time in the military was a significant part of their lives; honoring their service and sacrifices is integral to a funeral or memorial service. Images from the first day of basic training or other military-related courses can be shown. You can brag about their accomplishments and show off their medals, promotions, and honors. In addition, it is helpful to put together a summary of the veteran's complete military service to give others context for their experiences.

2. Highlight Their Personal Life

You can't tell a person's entire story by focusing solely on their time in the military. We suggest including some highlights from the veteran's private life as well. Include things like graduations, weddings, babies, grandkids, and any other humanizing details you can find.

3. Two Different Services

Some families opt to hold two funerals, one without any military symbolism and the other with all the pomp and circumstance expected of a military funeral. A smaller, more intimate memorial ceremony is then planned. This facilitates open mourning and healing among family and friends.

To show respect for the deceased and veterans, you can request that guests carry flags and other patriotic symbols. This will aid in giving the ceremony more depth.

Please contact Ocean County Cremation Service specialists if you have any questions or need more information on our funeral services. We are here to help you in any way we can.
