Your Head Doesn't Know What Your Heart Feels
Monday, May 30, 2022
Grief is a natural response to losing someone or something important to you. You may feel a variety of emotions, such as sadness or loneliness. At Ocean County Cremation Service, we understand that loss affects people differently. You will begin to heal when you identify your feelings, take care of yourself, and seek help.
The Stages Of Grief
Each person's grief experience is unique. However, there are five stages to grief.
- Denial- When you first learn about death, it's normal to say, "This can't be real." It's possible that you'll feel shocked or numb. This is a temporary fix for an outburst of overwhelming emotion. It's a natural way of defending yourself.
- Anger- As the truth of your loss and pain seeps in, you become enraged. You may feel helpless and irritated, and these feelings may finally develop as rage. You can direct it at other people, a larger force, and even life itself. It's natural to be saddened by the loss of a loved one who has left you alone.
- Bargaining- You consider whether you could have done anything differently to avoid the loss throughout this stage. "Only if..." and "What if..." are typical ruminations. You could also try to achieve an understanding with a higher power.
- Depression- Grief arises when you recognize the absence of something and its impact on your life. Sobbing, sleep problems, and a loss of appetite are all symptoms of depression. You may feel weighed down, remorseful, and isolated.
- Acceptance- You've accepted the reality of your loss at this step in the mourning process. It can't be undone. You can get on with your life when you're still upset.
When you are grieving, you need to tell your head to manage what your heart feels so that you can heal faster. Contact us at Ocean County Cremation Service today if you want any more information on this topic or pre-plan a funeral. We'll be happy to help with the information and services you need.
