Are All Caskets The Same Size?

At Ocean County Cremation Service, several clients inquire whether all caskets come in a standard size. That is not the case. A standard-sized one will usually suffice if you require a casket for a departed loved one. However, an oversized casket will be necessary if the individual is significantly larger. There is no need for an extravagant casket; instead, a basic one can be used since there is no burial.

Various Sizes of Caskets

Caskets come in a range of sizes.

1. Size of a Standard Casket

These caskets are typically 84 inches long, 28 inches wide, and 23 inches tall. In most cases, metal and wood caskets have the exact dimensions. Caskets of standard sizes fit within ordinary burial plots (which are typically 30" wide). The proportions of the casket's interior will vary slightly. Metal caskets generally are 78/79" in length and 23/24" in width on the interior.

Standard size caskets are appropriate for most adults and can often accommodate an individual weighing up to 350 pounds and standing 6'5" tall. However, it is recommended that you consult with your funeral director, as they are informed and can advise you on the suitable casket for your needs.

2. Larger Casket Size

If you require a casket for a considerably larger person or require additional space within the casket, you may choose an oversized casket. While the length of these pieces is identical to that of standard-size ones, the internal space is substantially bigger. Smaller oversized caskets may have an outside width of 27" and a slightly smaller inner width. Additionally, you can select between enormous caskets measuring 28", 29", 33", 40", and 44". All sizes will have an interior that is 1 inch smaller than the exterior.
