If a person has opted for cremation as a disposition method after their death, the family will get the ashes at the end of the process. However, at Ocean County Cremation Service we gave seen that many people don’t know what they can do with the ashes in the urn given to them. This is more of a personal choice, and in this blog, we discuss your options.

What You Can Do With The Ashes After Cremation

Here are five things that you can do with your loved one’s ashes:

  • You can place the ashes in an urn of your preference and keep them in a special spot in your home. For example, you can place it on the mantle or a console table in your bedroom.

  • Create a small memorial nook or bury the urn in your backyard and plant a tree or bush in that place. The place becomes the perfect spot to pay your respects to your loved ones. Add some lights or candles to create a serene space where you can reminisce about the departed soul.

  • You can place the urn with the ashes in a columbarium. This building/structure is specially built to house urns. You can find one at a church/cemetery near your home so you can visit it when you like. This structure has niches or small alcoves where you can keep the urn and get the person’s name engraved on a plaque affixed to the glass cover of the niche.

  • Another option is to bury the urn as you would a casket in a cemetery. This also gives you a place that you can visit to pay your respects to the departed soul.

  • Scattering the ashes at sea also called a sea burial- is another option to consider.

If you have any doubts or queries or need information about the different types of urns, feel free to contact the professionals at Ocean County Cremation Service today.
