It’s crucial that you do not use terms such as – “your mom/dad is in a better place,” or “They have become a star.” Today, children are very perceptive and generally know what has occurred. However, they may not be strong enough to handle the news and that’s where family members need to help.
   
• When you are speaking with a child and explaining what has happened, you need to ensure the child understands that their loved one will not be returning.
   
• Listen to the child to understand what they are feeling and answer their questions willingly.
